About Winter Garden
Winter Garden is a city in Orange County, Florida. As of the 2008 census, the population of the city was 31,132. The city proper has a total area of 17 square miles. It is located on the south side of Lake Apopka and is approximately 30 minutes west of Orlando.
Early settlers came to the area in the mid-1800s, but it was in 1886 when the arrival of the Orange Belt Railway boosted growth. This brought many more settlers to take advantage of the fertile soil and temperate climate, thus becoming known as “Winter Garden” for its year round growing. Later, paved roads and the Model T boosted tourism and worth of mouth stories of the fishing on Lake Apopka brought fisherman from afar. Lake Apopka was at one time known as the “large-mouth bass capital”.
Winter Garden has a great selection of homes. There’s a home for every families budget. Golf course communities, well established subdivisions, farm homes and new construction homes are available for sale. Winter Garden has all the convenience of major retailers, a wide assortment of restaurants, and plenty of outdoor recreation. The downtown district is recognized by the National Registry of Historic Places.
