About The Villages
The Villages is a city in Sumter County, with portions in Lake and Marion. As of the 2008 census, the population of the city was around 75,000. The city proper has a total area of 5.6 square miles. The Villages also earned the number one ranking as the fastest growing area in the U.S.
The Villages started out as a mobile home park in the 1970s by Harold Schwartz and Al Tarrson. Later, Schwartz bought Tarrson’s interest and brought in his son, H. Gary Morse. From there the focus became an amenity based community with a strong commercial infrastructure. It officially became “The Villages
in 1992.
The Villages has an array of homes for sale in several different styles of communities (all still amenities based). Golf course communities, well established subdivisions, and new construction homes are available for sale. The Villages has a wide assortment of charming shops, restaurants, a movie theater, and the convenience of the larger retailer/grocery stores.
