About Leesburg
Leesburg is a city in the county of Lake, situated between Lake Harris and Lake Griffin at the top of the Oklawaha River. It is peacefully set only 45 miles northwest of Orlando, 43 miles from Disney, 67 miles from Daytona Beach, and 55 miles from the Gulf of Mexico. It conveniently has the several major arteries pass through- U.S. Highway 27, U.S. Highway 441, S.R. 44, and just to the south passes Florida’s Turnpike. The city proper has a total area of 24.4 square miles and the current population is estimated to be just over 19,000. Leesburg is home to Lake-Sumter Community College.
Leesburg was settled in 1857 by Evander McIver Lee. Calvin Lee, one of Evander’s many brothers that followed him down, is credited with giving the city its name. Watermelon and citrus farming were two of the biggest industries until it dwindled and moved to more southern locales. Leesburg has experienced a lot of growth due to it becoming a popular retirement location and the fast growth of Orlando.
Leesburg has a variety of homes for sale. There’s a home for every families budget. Golf course communities, well established subdivisions, farm homes and new construction homes are available for sale.
